Hot nights in London? Here’s what saved my sleep

With this summer turning London into what feels like a Mediterranean oven – and hot nights swinging between stifling and surprisingly chilly – getting a good night’s sleep has become a serious challenge in our household. As mums, we often juggle work, parenting, and everything in between, but what suffers most? Our sleep. Yet research shows that good sleep is essential for both our physical health and mental resilience – especially when you’re waking up to school runs, packed lunches, and deadlines. That’s why I recently decided to invest in better sleep, opting for high-quality, tech-forward products from Simba, a brand known for its clever design and ethical credentials. And let me say – it was a game-changer.

The Simba Summer Duvet: A Cool Embrace on Hot Nights

Let’s start with the Simba Summer Duvet. With its light 4.5 Tog weight, this duvet is just right for those warmer nights when a full duvet feels like a furnace. What stood out instantly was the Stratos® ‘cool-touch’ technology – a genius innovation inspired by astronaut tech (yes, really) that somehow makes one side of the duvet feel immediately cooler against the skin.

It’s airy, soft, and filled with Simba Renew Bio™ fibres made from recycled bottles – sustainable, but also incredibly plush. I noticed the difference within two nights: no more midnight tossing or duvet-thrashing. The temperature control really works, and the pure cotton cover adds a fresh, breathable finish. Plus, the square-stitched design means no annoying clumps gathering in the corners.

A bonus? It’s machine washable, which, let’s face it, is vital in a home with children, pets, or both.

Would I recommend it? Absolutely – especially for anyone going through menopause, postnatal night sweats, or just the unpredictability of British summer nights.

The Simba Hybrid Pillow: Custom Comfort That Truly Delivers

Now, let’s talk about the Simba Hybrid Pillow. It’s not your average pillow – and at £109, it’s definitely an investment. But one night in, and I understood why.

What makes it special? The Nanocube® technology inside. Tiny foam cubes can be added or removed, letting you adjust both the height and firmness of the pillow to suit your sleep style. I like to sleep on my side, and after a bit of tweaking, I found my ideal setting – firm enough to support my neck, soft enough to feel like a cloud.

Again, the Stratos® cool-touch cover is a revelation – even through a pillowcase, it feels fresh. And for anyone struggling with overheating at night (which is almost all of us this summer), this makes a real difference. The pillow also features a zip-off, washable cover (a big win in a mum’s world), and a handy reusable storage bag for the extra cubes.

Why It Matters

Since switching to the Simba set-up, I’ve noticed:

  • Fewer wake-ups during the night

  • Less neck stiffness in the morning

  • And – dare I say it – a bit more energy during the day

Simba products aren’t cheap – but they are thoughtfully designed, sustainable, and certified by B Corp for their ethical practices. For something that impacts your daily life as much as sleep, I think it’s money well spent.

We often spend hundreds on prams, cots, and gadgets for our little ones – but sometimes forget that our sleep matters too. So whether you’re a hot sleeper, a busy mum, or just someone ready to upgrade your bedding, this combo is definitely worth considering.

Monica’s Sleep Score:

Cool, comfy, customisable – and just the thing for surviving London’s heatwave (with style and sanity intact) and hot nights.
