On Tuesday, 3rd September 2024, we had the pleasure of attending a special screening of Beetlejuice Beetlejuice at Cineworld Leicester Square. Here’s our take on Tim Burton‘s spooky sequel!
The Story
The Beetlejuice sequel takes us back to Winter River, where chaos reigns once again. Lydia Deetz (Winona Ryder) has settled into her adult life, but her rebellious daughter Astrid (Jenna Ortega) stirs up trouble when she uncovers a mysterious model of the town in the attic. One wrong move later, the portal to the Afterlife is opened, and Beetlejuice (Michael Keaton) returns to wreak his special brand of havoc!
This film is packed with the quirky, offbeat humour we know and love from Tim Burton, although the plot can feel a little cluttered at times with all the new characters and subplots.
The Trailer
Curious about what’s in store? Check out the trailer here! It teases a wild ride through both the living and the dead worlds, packed with Burton’s signature creepy and whimsical style.
The Verdict
Let’s be honest, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice doesn’t quite capture the magic of the original film, but it still brings plenty of fun and nostalgia. Michael Keaton’s return as the infamous Beetlejuice is pure energy — he steals the show with every scene! Jenna Ortega delivers a stellar performance as Astrid, stepping into the spotlight as the new goth teen to watch. Plus, Willem Dafoe adds a quirky twist as a hilariously weird afterlife cop.
While the story does get a bit tangled with too many characters and subplots, there are enough laugh-out-loud moments and quirky visuals to keep fans engaged. It’s not the groundbreaking sequel we hoped for, but it’s definitely an entertaining watch.
London Mums’ Rating: 5/10
It’s a fun, quirky flick with fantastic performances, but it doesn’t quite match the original’s magic. Great for fans of Tim Burton’s eccentric world, though!
