child's sleep

Sleep is just as important for children as it is for adults. For this reason, finding the best material for them is important to promote the child’s sleep, health and well-being. Considering the children may sleep for up to 14 hours every day, getting the correct mattress enhances their quality of life. So, what should you be looking out for when shopping for kids’ mattresses? Read on to find out!

1. Firmness

Sleeping alone for children translates in some sense of independence. Besides the independence, the bed will become a playground for them where they can turn, toss, and even build forts especially when they have siblings.

If you are looking for a comfortable place where your kids will play, consider getting a firmer mattress. It ensures safety while still maintaining proper spinal alignment. When selecting a firm mattress, know your kids sleeping position as this determines whether you should have a firm or firmer option.

2. Correct Sizes

The sizes of the mattresses hugely differ. As mentioned above, children often toss and turn and this will impact their sleep quality. Younger children will need cribs or toddler beds while the growing kids need bigger spaces to sleep in. To enhance durability, consider a super-single mattress that is often wider than a single unit. With this, you can be sure that you won’t need to change your child’s mattress as they grow.

3. Mattress Material

This is amongst the most overlooked elements when it comes to kids’ mattresses. Like an adult, the material used will hugely affect your child’s sleep comfort. At stores like Emma mattress, you can find a variety of mattresses from memory foam to latex and pocketed spring options.

Memory form mattresses come with body contouring and pressure targeting while latex offers the kids a bouncy feeling. The latter is usually thicker and firmer as it is made with different layers of material and spring structures. The pocketed spring mattress is the best option for children who frequently turn and toss as it has an individual motion response. With its supportive edge, it stands out as the safest mattress option for kids.

4. Pricing

How much are you willing to spend on your kid’s mattress? A mattress is a significant investment that should provide you with a durability advantage. Remember that it will stay in your child’s room for years and you should ensure that you get a worthwhile deal.

While it is tempting to buy a low-cost mattress, you must be mindful of the additional features to make your child’s sleep comfortable. You need to find an option that strikes a balance between quality and affordability as not all expensive mattresses are good.

To settle on the ideal option, consider checking the prices from two or three providers and compare the features against the price range. By doing this, you can easily settle on the mattress with the right size, materials, and firmness all within your budget.

5. Mattress Protectors and Accessories

Kids can sometimes be messy. Some of the aspects you may not have control over include bed wetting, exposure to dust, as well as sweat. To mitigate their damage, you need to invest in a good mattress protector. It should be easier to clean and replace.

Other accessories your child may need are holsters, comfortable bed sheets, and breathable blankets. Shopping for all of them at once makes the process easier as you can match your kid’s comfort preferences.

As you can see, finding the right mattress for your child requires that you make a few considerations. You need to ensure that your selected mattress offers your kids safety and comfort without hurting your bank balance. With kids being messy and others wetting their beds, you must also consider additional accessories such as mattress protectors. All this goes to enhancing the comfort and longevity of the mattress!
