I might be biased this week choosing the bedtime story for the Kids Club, but meeting the lovely Nadia Shireen at the Penguin Random House HQ on the Strand certainly helped appreciate the tale of The BumbleBear. With the recent release of the new Disney’s Jungle Book, the honey seeking bear is more popular than ever. The BumbleBear is a lovely picture book for very young readers which caught my imagination and made me smile and think.

It’s about Norman, the bear who thinks outside of the box to get hold of honey, which he adores. He dresses up like a bee and goes to bed school claiming to be a giant bee from giant bee land.
They accept him until caught eating honey they realise he is a bear and not a bee. He is obviously gutted and misses bee school. One day things change for the best when he helps the bees scare a huge bear away. He becomes the bees’ hero and is accepted as their BFF (best friend forever) including the perks, honey!
This sweet little story is beautifully illustrated and shows children that very different creatures can become unlikely friends. Above and beyond this story it teaches them to be tolerant and accepting of diversities.
