1. A Christmas Carol is 170 this Christmas. Dickens was inspired to write A Christmas Carol in 1843 after he spoke at a charity night to raise money for the Manchester Athenaeum. Later that night, Dickens went for a walk and had then the idea for his most famous novella.
2. A Christmas Carol arrived at the shops on 17th December 1843, and sold out all 6000 copies in just three days.
