Book of the week: RAF 100 ideal as a Father’s Day Gift

Father’s Day is coming up (Sunday, 17 June 2018) and The RAF 100 book is the ideal gift for any for any fans of historical airplanes, war history and engineering as well as collectors of RAF memorabilia. I am none of that but still loved flipping through the pages and looking at the stunning original photography. It is great value at £25 because the volume looks expensive and precious. It is published by Carlton Books and available from www.carltonbooks.co.uk.

RAF 100: The Official Story is written by leading historian and television presenter, James Holland and is published by Andre Deutsch to celebrate the 100-year anniversary of the Royal Air Force in 2018. Personally I would love it as a present because I love reading history books.

After reading a couple of pages of this book, my 11 year old son Diego said that he wants to become an aircraft engineer when he grows up. It is indeed an inspirational volume.

It has been created in association with the RAF and with unique access to their historic archives, photographs and documents that are used to tell the story of the people, planes and missions as never before.

From its genesis in the horrors of the First World War, when pilots were open to the elements in craft made of wood and fabric, to the famous Battle of Britain of the Second World War, through to the life-saving missions carried out in today’s trouble zones. RAF 100: The Official Story looks at the men, women and aircraft that are at the heart of this great service.
