A must-read for all fans of our canine four-legged friends, Paws for Thought – Life Through a Dog’s Eyes captivates as debut author Elaine Jacque’s beloved and eloquent Border Collie, Monty, shares what a dog’s life is really all about.
A book that will be dipped into time and time again by those with a passion for dogs, their loyalty, energy and joie d’vivre, Paws for Thought enthrals with debut author Elaine Jacques’ short story collection.
With her beloved border collie, Monty, taking on the role of both narrator and protagonist, this charming anthology chronicles Monty’s journey from canine adolescence to adulthood, his adventures, new friendships formed and a whole host of unforgettable experiences that kept his tail wagging.
Starting life as the runt of the litter, and described by Elaine as a ‘little odd, piglet looking puppy’ the happiness that Monty brings to his besotted owner jumps from each and every page. Also setting Elaine on the unexpected path to becoming a published and successful author, Paws for Thought confirms why dogs really are man’s best friend.
The story
Paws for thought is an exploration of life seen through the eyes of (wo)man’s best friend. Via a collection of short stories we experience emotions ranging from humour, loss and love as well as the boundless energy of a soul thoroughly content with his lot in life.
The author says:
“I wasn’t the brightest as a child and struggled with reading and writing.
“My English teacher took the time to give me some one-to-one tuition after class and had me read William
Shakespeare’s Sonnet 29: When, in Disgrace with Fortune and Men’s Eyes.
“We would read each line, think about the meaning and discuss it before moving to the next line. I loved that poem and is what gave me the confidence and passion for reading and writing.
“But, following the encouraging reception of my debut book, I am currently contemplating a sequel to
Paws for Thought.”
Garnering five-star praise from dog lovers and readers alike, Amazon reviews include:
“This is the story of a lovely lady and Monty, her dog. Monty was the runt of the litter and chose Elaine to be his new Mum the first time they met. They have been together ever since through good and bad times. He is one special dog and Elaine’s best friend. Also – he could not have a kinder, more caring Mum.” – Mr G Freeman
“A great insight into the wonderful character of a dog called Monty, his emotions and experiences. Thoroughly entertaining.” – Robin
“Elaine’s book about her beautiful dog Monty, his adventures and his friends is a true joy to read. I really enjoyed it, and literally couldn’t put it down. The illustrations are fun, and you can tell that Monty is a wonderful creature. Highly recommend!” – Phil
“This is one of those books that somehow just makes you feel better about things. As its chapters span the life of Monty and Elaine, you are drawn in to their world and naturally want to progress from one chapter to the next. The photo’s that accompany the text help bring to life their world and provide wonderful little connection points to some of the characters such as Monty’s feline and feathered friends. I suspect this is what makes the difference. – This isn’t fiction, its real beings and their story and adventures together in a full and varied life.” – Amazon Customer
