On-the-go health: Essential supplements to pack

Essential supplements to pack

Nothing can ruin a vacation or business trip quicker than poor health. A sure-fire way to protect your health and nutrition is to include a small range of effective supplements in your diet for the duration of your travels. This will allow you to embark on memory-making adventures without fear.

In many countries, supplements are not regulated by the government, making it imperative to purchase and consume products from accredited and trusted companies. This will allow you to reap the rewards of your favourite products, like Vida Glow collagen, probiotics and daily multivitamins, with peace of mind that you are helping your body instead of harming it.

Probiotics

Travel of any kind typically results in a change of diet and water sources and could potentially result in exposure to unfamiliar bacteria and pathogens. These factors can often disrupt the harmonious balance of the beneficial bacteria present in your gut, leading to unwanted digestive issues like constipation, bloating, and diarrhoea.

Taking a probiotic while travelling is the most effective way to minimise these issues and maintain balanced gut health. Probiotics are live bacteria that help restore and support your gut microbiome and flora, promoting better digestion and helping to avoid gastrointestinal issues.

Probiotics are not just crucial for general gut health, but they are also an effective tool in supporting a healthy immune system. This is primarily because the majority of the immune system is found in the gut, and a healthy gut microbiome ensures proper immune function. Find a reputable website and click for supplements to explore high-quality probiotic options that can support your digestive and immune health. Incorporating the right supplements into your routine can help maintain overall well-being.

Unfamiliar gems that cause disruptions to your gut health can also put stress on your general immune system, meaning probiotics that support the gut’s natural defence mechanisms will simultaneously strengthen your immune response.

Finally, your brain and gut naturally have a strong connection, and a daily probiotic can help you feel more resilient and clear-headed while travelling. Probiotics can also reduce anxiety levels and support general well-being, which is particularly important in stressful and unknown situations.

Magnesium

Magnesium is a fantastic natural supplement that can effectively support healthy sleep patterns and improve sleep quality, which can often be disrupted by changing time zones and long travel days. Magnesium also plays a role in the body’s production and regulation of melatonin, the hormone responsible for regulating our sleep-wake cycle. It also contains muscle-relaxing properties that can further aid in more restful sleep.

If you are especially prone to jet lag and sleep deprivation, magnesium should be an essential addition to your supplement routine. Additionally, some variations of magnesium have been found to stimulate healthy digestion and support daily bowel movements, which can become more erratic while travelling.

Elderberry & Vitamin C

You never quite know what new and unfamiliar germs you may be exposed to while travelling through airports, train stations and other means of public transport. Picking up a travel bug can instantly ruin an exciting vacation, so giving your immune system the extra boost it needs with elderberry and additional Vitamin C will be the right step forward.

Studies have found that elderberry contains immunomodulatory effects, which help to regulate and balance the immune response. Vitamin C is largely considered to be the holy grail when it comes to immune health, as it supports the production of essential antibodies, which are proteins created by the immune system as a reaction to the presence of specific harmful pathogens.

Furthermore, with elderberry in support, Vitamin C boosts natural killer cell activity, which is vital to the body’s innate immune response and keeps you healthy and protected. However, too much Vitamin C can lead to diarrhoea and other digestive issues.

Daily Multivitamin

If you currently take a multivitamin as part of your daily health routine, don’t skip any days on your schedule due to your travel plans. Continuing your regular multivitamin routine can be highly beneficial to your overall health.

New locations and cuisines can disrupt your standard eating and sleeping habits, which could lead to sickness and general poor health. However, including a daily familiar supplement ensures your body’s nutritional basics are consistently well-covered.

Packing Tips

Vitamins and supplements, regardless of their form, can be tricky to pack while travelling. To keep them protected and within packing guidelines, there are a number of practical tips to follow.

International airlines have strict size restrictions on liquid products, but these same restrictions often don’t exist with supplements in capsule form. To avoid any potential issues with border control upon arrival, ensure all your supplements are labelled clearly and correctly, and you travel with an amount appropriate for the length of your vacation. When travelling with liquid supplements, each container may not exceed 3.4 ounces, while powered supplements of more than 12 ounces will often need to be x-rayed separately.

Should space allow, you may want to pack your supplements into your carry-on luggage in case your checked bag gets lost during transit, or you want to maintain your schedule during extra-long travel days.

It is important to consider the location of your holidays and the possible environmental conditions your luggage may face. During travel alone, your essential supplements may be exposed to a variety of different temperatures and moisture levels that can affect the quality and consistency of the product.

Liquids, powders, and gummies are typically more susceptible to heat than tablets, capsules, and other solid, protected forms. If you usually get your essential supplements through these vulnerable forms, it may be worthwhile switching to capsules for your vacation.
