Recipe: Christmas Biscuits

This recipe is taken from the Sara’s Cooking Class app which is available to download now. Children will love to make and decorate these festive treats. Baking is the perfect activity for the Christmas holidays when the weather is uninviting.

Serves 35

Prep Time: 10 minutes (including 30 minutes for chilling)

Cook Time: 15 minutes (including 10 minutes for cooling)

Total Time: 25 minutes

Ingredients:

175g butter, softened

100g caster sugar

1 medium egg yolk

250g plain flour

50g royal icing sugar, made up as instructed

Silver balls and ribbon

Method:

Beat the butter and sugar until creamy. Beat in the egg yolk and add the flour and mix to a smooth dough. Gather together with your hands, wrap in clingfilm and chill for 30 mins.

Preheat the oven to 180°C/ 160°C fan/gas mark 4. Line two baking trays with baking paper.

Roll out the dough between two sheets of clingfilm to the thickness of a £2 coin. Cut out into stars or trees or just rounds and put on the baking trays, leaving a small gap around the biscuits. If they are to be hung on the tree make a small hole for the ribbon.

Bake for 15 mins, leave for 10 mins and then cool on a wire tray. Pipe or drizzle some icing onto the biscuits and decorate with silver balls. Allow the icing to set before storing.
