My aunt’s churros recipe – great for Pancake day & beyond
Did you know …..
Pancake day is also known as Shrove Tuesday which is the day preceding Ash Wednesday, the first day of Lent.
Shrove Tuesday is determined by Easter; its date changes every year.
The expression “Shrove Tuesday” comes from the word shrive, meaning “confess” and relates to popular practices associated with celebrations before the fasting and religious obligations associated with the penitential season of Lent. The term Mardi Gras is French for Fat Tuesday, referring to the practice of the last night of eating richer, fatty foods before the ritual fasting of the Lenten season, which begins on Ash Wednesday.
I love sprinkling gravy granules on mine for a more savoury treat – trust me dont knock it until you’ve tried it, it’s delicious!! xx
Unusual tip but worth trying. Thanks Jenifer. My favourite is hot pancake wrapped in smoked mature cheddar in it. Also quite unusual but I prefer savoury recipes to sweet ones.
My very favourite pancake recipe takes me back to my childhood and the treat of eating in the Little Chef! So my favourite filling for pancakes is tinned cherry pie filling accompanied by vanilla ice cream. Although I really prefer savoury to sweet things these days, so rolling a pancake around a 1/4 mix of Stilton (or any other blue cheese) and cream cheese is what I’ll be experimenting with this year.
wow! mouth watering! If you girls want to write your recipes as blogs please feel free to let me know and I will send you guest blogging access. Thanks
traditional sugar & lemon juice
Sugar and Lemon is simple but always yummy! I would dare say that one of my favourite pancakes is with lemon curd. My son absolutely loves it.
Once I have made my regular pancakes I like to spread Nutella all over them, fold them over and put a great big dollop of vanilla ice cream on top!
This is really yummy!!! Kids totally love it. Better for them than for us mums 🙂
I still think the original lemon and sugar is the best, it just can’t be beaten
Melting lemon curd is also quite extraordinary!
Canadian Maple Syrup with fresh blueberries….mmmmmm
Simply with maple syrup or with raspberry jam and loads of butter!
I like my pancakes made with wholemeal flour and filled with proper mature cheddar cheese and mushrooms ~ yum!
I like sugary blackberries and a blob of clotted cream
Sugar & lemon, simple but the best
I love strawberries with whipped cream and strawberry sauce drizzled over the top. Gorgeous x
