Last night, (23 April 2025), The Half Moon in Putney hosted Bootleg Blondie, the UK’s premier Blondie tribute band, for a memorable evening that paid homage to rock legends and local icons. The band, led by the dynamic Debbie Harris, delivered a nearly three-hour performance that captivated the audience from start to finish.?
A Tribute to Blondie and Beyond
Bootleg Blondie is renowned for their authentic renditions of Blondie’s hits, and this night was no exception. Debbie Harris, bearing a striking resemblance to Debbie Harry, not only looked the part but also embodied the spirit and energy of the original frontwoman. Her multiple costume changes, reminiscent of Harry’s iconic style, added flair to the performance.?
The band’s musical prowess was evident throughout the evening, delivering classics like “Heart of Glass” and “Call Me” with precision and passion. The atmosphere was electric, a testament to both the band’s talent and the intimate setting of The Half Moon, a venue cherished by locals for its rich musical heritage.?
Honouring Local Legends
In a heartfelt segment, the band paid tribute to Marc Bolan, the legendary T. Rex frontman who lived and tragically died in nearby East Sheen. This homage resonated deeply with the audience, many of whom hold Bolan’s legacy close to heart. Additionally, a stirring cover of David Bowie’s “Heroes” served as a nod to another British music icon, further enriching the night’s nostalgic journey.?
A Special Guest Appearance
Amongst the crowd was Glen Matlock, the original bassist of the Sex Pistols and currently touring with Blondie. Matlock, who joined Blondie for their April 2022 UK and US tour, filling in for bassist Leigh Foxx, has become an integral part of the band’s recent performances. He graciously greeted the musicians and paid homage to Clem Burke, Blondie’s legendary drummer who passed away on April 6, 2025, at the age of 70 following a private battle with cancer.
Having interviewed Matlock on multiple occasions, I was delighted to share a warm hug and a brief chat with him, looking forward to our next in-depth discussion about his musical journey and experiences with Blondie.
