Captain Beaky Extravaganza in aid of UNICEF is a big success at the RAH

On Sunday 11 December 2011, we attended an amazing show hosted in in aid of UNICEF at the Royal Albert Hall with very special guests including Roger Moore, Vanessa Redgrave, Jeremy Lloyd, Alan Titchmarsh and Duncan Bannatyne.

Captain Beaky & His Band is the cover title of two fantastic albums of poetry by Jeremy Lloyd, set to music by Jim Parker and recited by British celebrities. First released in 1977, a generation of children and parents enjoyed the adventures of Timid Toad, Reckless Rat and many more through radio, TV shows and a West End Musical as well as performances by New York City Ballet.

The Royal Albert Hall was at its best during this spectacular charity event filled with ballet dancing, costume representations, mesmerising reading by Sir Roger Moore, his daughter and Vanessa Redgrave.

I was worried my 5 year old son could get bored but he absolutely adored every minute of this nostalgic, festive treat revisiting these classic poems whilst also introducing them to an entirely new generation.

Introduced by Sir Roger Moore KBE, UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador, and directed by Hugh Wooldridge, the evening features a host of special celebrity guests recounting these magical poems with musical interludes and performances.

This event was part of the Hall’s commitment in providing new and innovative programming and creating visitor experiences that can be enjoyed by all ages. As a charity, the Hall is committed in making the venue accessible to all and supporting other charitable purposes.

All proceeds from this event went to UNICEF- registered charity number: 1072612.
