On Saturday 15th of February London Mums Magazine‘s young reporters were invited to the press performance of The Baddies, based on the acclaimed book by Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler, at Yvonne Arnaud theatre, Guildford.
I have been a fan Julia Donaldson books for years and since having my daughter I’ve been to several of the theatre adaptations too.
The Baddies I have to say is hands down my favourite to date. I would describe it as a fun and energetic first musical for children, bright and entertaining taking you through the story with a hint of scary and silly. It somehow had a slightly different feeling to Stickman, The Gruffalo and Room on the Broom which also had singing but felt more like plays to me.
My daughter and her little friend were both really gripped from start to finish. Myself and my friend also didn’t zone out for a second (sometimes at kids shows you can’t help it let’s be honest!)
The Baddies is a story of a witch, a ghost and a troll who are attempting to do what they do best and scare a new girl in town but with some kindness, understanding and generosity thrown in it’s not as easy for them as they first thought it would be. There are positive messages throughout which makes it all even more appealing – things we all want our children to hear.
Overall The Baddies is a really good show with a fast paced adventure, catchy songs and important lessens ideal for the whole family to watch and come away smiling!
The Yvonne Arnold Theatre in Guildford is a place I’ve visited several times before – it’s a great venue, easy to park and there is a car park 4 minutes walk away (leave plenty of time as it gets busy). Its a light and airy theatre.
we thoroughly enjoyed the performance and gave it a 10/10, we had a wonderful day and the kids were so engaged.
