SENsational Tutors and Westminster City Council launch FREE back to school Summer Camp for Westminster children

SENsational Tutors Ltd., London’s leading Special Needs tuition company, has received funding from Westminster City Council to provide approximately 20 children in Westminster with a FREE place at its SENsationally Fun Summer Camp this August.

Geared towards combatting summer learning loss, the Summer Camp, will be run by a team of qualified teachers and learning and behaviour specialists and offer an action packed, social and educational programme aimed to transition children back into the expectations of school life. Children will receive targeted support to improve their academic ability (especially English and Maths) and develop their social skills through play, creative projects and physical activities.

Joanna Gibbs, Director of SENsational Tutors Ltd. said; “Research and studies show that on average, children can lose up to 30% or two months of their academic skills over the summer break. Our stimulating Summer Camp programme is designed to help address any social and academic loss experienced during the holidays through a range of fun, interactive and creative, yet educational activities, making the return to school a much easier experience for both children and parents.”

Westminster City Council’s cabinet member for Family Services and Public Health Cllr Heather Acton said:“This is a great way to make sure children feel they can return to school with confidence.  We want children and families with special educational needs to feel supported and valued in our community, and I’m pleased to be backing Summer Camp as part of that commitment.”

Funding has been provided through Westminster Council’s #MyWestminster Fund, which supports voluntary groups and promotes community cohesion across the borough.

Cllr David Harvey, cabinet member for Economic Development, Education and Community said: “We want to support projects which help people of all ages to develop their potential and make the most of life in Westminster. I can’t think of a more deserving initiative than this one, and hope everyone who comes to Summer Camp has a great time and leaves feeling better prepared for the challenges of a new school year”.

Applications are welcomed from parents of all children aged 5-11 who are Westminster City Council residents and believe that their child requires a little extra nurturing and a gentle hand before the start of the new school year.

Special acknowledgement and provisions will be made for children with a diagnosis of, or suspected, specific and additional needs/learning disabilities including; autism, dyslexia, ADD/ ADHD, global developmental delay and Down’s Syndrome.

Applications for the SENsationally Fun Summer Camp close midnight 1st July 2018.
