Restaurant review: Zuaya London – a Tiki-tastic Pan-Latin feast in High Street Kensington

Picture this: It’s my birthday, the sun is shining, and my best friend Laura and I are back at Zuaya London in High Street Kensington. Yes, that’s right — my second visit! The first time was just before Christmas, and now we’re here to dive into their summery menu. Let’s just say, it was a fiesta for the senses!

The moment we walked in, Zuaya’s stunning interior whisked us away to a tropical paradise. Think stylish furniture, lush greenery, and an ambience that’s both cozy and lively. Whether you fancy an inside spot or prefer the outside terrace, this place has got you covered. It’s like a mini-vacation in the middle of the city!

My friend Laura even surprised me with a cute gift from Jellycat UK, adding to the joy of the evening.

Now, let’s talk about the food. We kicked things off with cocktails served in whimsical tiki glasses — fun, right? These concoctions set the perfect tone for the evening. Then came the dishes, each more delightful than the last. We started with an octopus that was simply to die for, followed by plates adorned with beautiful edible flowers that were almost too pretty to eat. Almost.

The staff at Zuaya made our night even more special by remembering me from my previous visit. How sweet is that? Special shoutout to our lovely waitress Efua, who was an absolute gem. She made us feel like VIPs!

Zuaya’s menu is a culinary journey through Latin America, with a mix of small plates and mains that cater to all tastes—meat lovers, fish fanatics, and vegetarians alike. The Argentinian steak was a standout, juicy and packed with flavour. And the tapas? Each bite was a burst of delicate, mouth-watering goodness.

Of course, no place is perfect. While the food is fab, it’s easy to rack up a bill over £100 for two, so it might not be a weekly hangout for everyone. And the dessert menu? A bit on the sweet side for my liking. The Passion Fruit crème brûlée, though gorgeous with its edible flowers, could use a bit more variety to suit different sweet tooth levels.

But honestly, these are just tiny blips in an otherwise stellar dining experience. Zuaya London is a hidden gem in Kensington, offering delicious food, stylish decor, and top-notch service. Whether you’re sipping on a tiki cocktail or feasting on Pan-Latin delights, it’s a spot you’ll want to revisit again and again.
