Autumnal Afternoon Tea at Straits Kitchen, located in Pan Pacific London – review

On Sunday, 20th October 2024, London Mums Magazine and our Kids Club reporters had the pleasure of attending an Autumnal Afternoon Tea at the elegant Straits Kitchen, located on the first floor of the Pan Pacific London in the heart of the City of London.

Afternoon tea is my favourite mealtime – it’s the perfect break from the standard lunch or dinner, and it’s usually substantial enough to become the main event of the day without the heaviness of a full meal. Straits Kitchen’s reputation intrigued me, as did their child-friendly menu that includes a playful biscuit-decorating activity after the classic sandwiches. For an afternoon out with my daughter, it seemed an ideal blend of sophistication and fun.

The location itself was a refreshing surprise. While afternoon teas are often associated with West End venues or picturesque countryside settings, Straits Kitchen offers a welcome retreat in one of the country’s most vibrant areas. As we entered, the tasteful decor and calm ambience set the mood for a relaxed afternoon. Warm greetings from attentive staff and the understated elegance of the surroundings made us feel instantly at ease.

The tea selection was vast, featuring classic and unique blends. I opted for the English Breakfast, which was brewed to perfection and paired beautifully with an array of delicate, flavourful sandwiches. From cucumber and cream cheese to autumnal smoked salmon, each bite was a delightful nod to the season’s fresh ingredients.

The pièce de résistance of the experience, however, was undoubtedly the assortment of pastries and scones – warm, freshly baked scones served with clotted cream and jam, which practically melted in my mouth. The selection of pastries, from intricately decorated cakes to velvety macarons, showcased an impressive level of artistry and attention to detail. It was nearly impossible to pick a favourite!

This afternoon tea offered a twist, too. We were greeted with a beautifully spiced amuse-bouche that set the tone for the exquisite courses to follow. My daughter’s sandwiches were thoughtfully shaped to capture her interest, making her healthier choices appealing. At several points throughout, we were offered extra treats, adding to the charm and generosity of the experience.

All in all, the Autumnal Afternoon Tea at Straits Kitchen provided the perfect combination of elegance, flavour, and family-friendly touches. It’s a little haven in the City that delivers on both taste and atmosphere, making it a memorable experience for mums and little ones alike.

Overall, the attention to detail and impeccable service transformed this afternoon tea into a memorable experience. Whether it’s a special celebration or simply a well-deserved treat, afternoon tea in the City of London is a delightful way to savour a quintessential British tradition while enjoying the modern urban landscape. Highly recommended! 5/5
