Coronation themed afternoon tea and biscuit icing workshop at Biscuiteers in Belgravia

Biscuiteers in Belgravia, London, is a charming boutique cafe that offers a variety of treats, including hand-iced biscuits, cakes, and savories. The cafe is well-known for its themed afternoon teas, which change seasonally, and the icing cookie workshops, which are perfect for anyone looking for a fun and creative activity. Recently, I had the pleasure of attending the coronation-themed afternoon tea and icing cookies workshop at Biscuiteers, and here is my review.

Upon arriving at Biscuiteers in Belgravia, I was greeted by a friendly hostess who showed me to my table. The cafe was decorated with Union Jack flags and royal memorabilia, setting the scene for the coronation-themed afternoon tea. The table was beautifully laid out with a tiered cake stand, vintage tea set, and an array of finger sandwiches, scones, and sweet treats. The attention to detail was impressive, with each item carefully crafted to match the royal theme.

The finger sandwiches were a delicious assortment of classics such as cucumber, smoked salmon, and egg mayonnaise, but the real highlight was the coronation chicken sandwich. The sandwich had a perfect balance of sweet and savoury, with tender chicken coated in a tangy curry dressing and topped with apricots and raisins. The scones were freshly baked and served with clotted cream and strawberry jam, which added a touch of sweetness to the traditional cream tea. The sweet treats were a delightful mix of macarons, lemon curd tarts, and chocolate brownies, but the standout item was the Victoria sponge cake, which was light, fluffy, and topped with fresh strawberries.

As I enjoyed the delicious food and sipped on a fragrant cup of tea, I couldn’t help but admire the intricate icing designs on the biscuits displayed around the cafe. Biscuiteers is well-known for its hand-iced biscuits, and the cafe has an extensive range of designs, from animals to landmarks to seasonal themes. The icing cookie workshop I participated in with my colleague was an opportunity to learn the art of hand-icing and create my own royal-themed biscuits.

The workshop started with a brief demonstration of the icing techniques. The instructor was knowledgeable and engaging, and she explained each step in detail, from drawing with the icing sugar to applying the final touches. We were provided with a set of plain biscuits, a variety of colored icing, and some piping bags, and we were encouraged to let our creativity flow.

The workshop was a fun and relaxed environment, and everyone was encouraged to share their ideas and ask questions. It was fascinating to see the variety of designs that both of us came up with, from traditional crown and scepter to more abstract and funky designs. By the end of the session, we had a beautiful set of hand-iced biscuits to take home. My son Diego loved them so much that I barely got to taste them. I like them as well because they are not as sweet as the supermarket biscuits and they are also very crunchy. It is not easy to make them so good at home.
