Show review: Celtic Throne – A high-energy celebration of Irish roots and family spirit

On a balmy summer evening at London’s Eventim Apollo, Celtic Throne lit up the stage with a spectacular fusion of music, dance, and storytelling that left families – especially young children – utterly enchanted. The high-energy production, delivered by a powerhouse cast of over 50 performers hailing from America with strong Irish roots, felt at times like a Disney musical reimagined through the lens of ancient Gaelic legend.

Described as an “epic story from the ancient Irish annals,” the show traces the mythical journey of the Irish people from the ancient Near East to the green shores of Ireland, using traditional Irish dance as the beating heart of its narrative. The choreography was breathtaking, combining classic step dance with martial arts and gravity-defying acrobatics. The result? A visual feast that kept the audience – both young and old – on the edge of their seats.

What stood out most to me as a mum was the sheer brilliance of the younger dancers. Their confidence, discipline, and joy radiated from the stage. These kids were not just keeping up – they were stealing the show. Watching them perform so fearlessly was not only entertaining but inspiring for children in the audience, many of whom were dancing along in the aisles. The experience was proof that live performance can be a magical, shared family event – and Celtic Throne knows how to deliver exactly that.

Musically, the production soared with a live soundtrack blending Celtic melodies, drums, and cinematic orchestration. The chemistry between performers – many of whom are family members – created a warmth and synchronicity that added another layer of authenticity to the show’s themes of heritage, home, and hope.

There’s a positive, wholesome message underpinning Celtic Throne: it celebrates family, perseverance, and cultural pride in a way that’s refreshing in today’s fast-paced entertainment landscape. The audience’s reaction spoke volumes – standing ovations, cheers, and a buzz of excitement that lingered well after the final bow.

Whether you’re a fan of Irish culture or simply looking for a thrilling and family-friendly night out, Celtic Throne is a joy to watch. For London mums looking to introduce their children to live performance with energy, elegance, and meaning – this show hits the mark.

The Verdict: 5/5

A five-star evening of dance, music and magic – and a celebration of talent that bridges generations.
