Coronation afternoon tea at the Great Scotland Yard Hotel

The Great Scotland Yard Hotel, located in London, has launched a Coronation-themed afternoon tea to celebrate the ascension of King Charles III and Her MajestyThe Queen Consort. The sumptuous multi-sensory afternoon tea is available from 1st May for two months, in partnership with the iconic perfumery, Floris London. The afternoon tea takes place in The Parlour, a room that draws on tales of Britain’s Victorian explorers. The multi-sensory afternoon tea has been inspired by the notes of the historical British perfumer’s luxury fragrance, Elite. The hotel’s Head Pastry Chef, Verónica Garrido Martínez, has created the afternoon tea, allowing guests the opportunity to explore this exclusive perfume while celebrating the historical occasion.

The Great Scotland Yard Hotel is a 5-star hotel situated in an iconic 1820’s Grade II listed building, where tradition meets modern luxury. It offers 151 rooms and suites and is home to the ‘old Nordic’ restaurant Ekstedt at the Yard, which is headed up by Michelin starred chef Niklas Ekstedt. The hotel boasts an inimitable cocktail bar, The 40 Elephants, a hidden whisky bar, Síbín, afternoon tea lounge, The Parlour, a 5-storey detached private residence, Great Scotland Yard Townhouse, and more.

The afternoon tea experience begins with a glass of Veuve Clicquot Yellow Label Brut Champagne. Guests can indulge in savoury finger sandwiches such as ‘Chicken coronation on brown bread’ and ‘Smoked salmon, horseradish, dill on malted bread’. Warm scones accompany an assortment of delicate pastries and cakes including ‘King Charles III’s lemon and strawberry charlotte’ and ‘St.Edwards crown lavender and blueberry tartlet’. The afternoon tea incorporates the key notes from the Elite fragrance, including Bergamot, Cedar Leaf, and Grapefruit.

The afternoon tea is priced at £59 for a standard booking and £70 for a Champagne booking. It is available to book seven days a week from May 1st until July 1st. Floris London Coronation Afternoon Tea can be booked online or by calling 0207 9254 700.

The Great Scotland Yard Hotel’s signature cocktail bar, The 40 Elephants, is also launching a special Royal-Tea Martini to celebrate the Coronation. The regal tipple consists of tea-infused Hepple gin, orange-infused dry Vermouth, and orange marmalade and is garnished with a mini crown. King Charles is known to drink a martini every evening before dinner, and he has visited Hepple’s home to try one of their famous martinis, visit their 300-year-old juniper bushes, and to support their ‘Juniper Trust’ – a juniper propagation programme supported by the National Park and Natural England. The Royal Tea-Martini served in a wide glass covered in edible gold (which is quite nice!) will be available at The 40 Elephants from 1st May to 1st July, and the hotel will be donating £2 from each martini sold over the month of May to the Princes Trust.

Most importantly, the Great Scotland Yard  Hotel is very family-friendly. While I was there, there were lots of families with young children and babies.
