Five simple steps when buying tyres in London online.

When it comes to shopping, some things are much more easily bought online (crates of water, packs of tinned food, anything refrigerated) while yet others seem to lend themselves more to in-person shopping (shoes, clothing, fresh fruit). But where do tyres fall into this spectrum? Is it possible to buy the right tyres online? And if so, what will you do with them when they are delivered to your door?

Let’s have a look before you search Elite Direct to buy tyres in London.

Get the Right Specs

Your current tyres have a long alphanumeric code embossed onto them which lets you know everything you need to know about your tyres. The code gives details of the tyre width, sidewall height, the maximum weight and speed that the tyre can bear, and even gives you the tyres date of manufacture (week and year), so you can very quickly and easily find out everything there is to know about your tyre before you start shopping for your next set.

What Quality Are You Going For?

Tyres come in three different levels of quality:

  • Premium – the best possible tyres, made using the latest advances in tyre technology with the rubber obtained through sustainable farming practices.

  • Regular – last year’s premium tyres, these tyres are the main product used by commuters all over the UK. They include some innovations, but not all, and attempts are made to ensure the rubber used is ethically sourced.

  • Budget – cheap and cheerful, these tyres are up to spec and will be fine to use on the UK’s roads – for example, navigating the M25 and heading from London City Centre to Rainham and back – but they use rubber sourced from wherever it can be found, and won’t have all the latest technological advances in the tyres. If you buy a used car from a private vendor that boasts ‘all new tyres’ they will almost certainly be budget tyres!

Premium tyres can cost twice the price of budget tyres, so it can be a significant cost consideration as to which you will go for. Choose the best quality tyre that you can afford without putting yourself into financial difficulties.

What Season is It?

The season can help you to choose between summer tyres and winter or all-weather offerings. Winter tyres work best below 7°C, so only choose these if the ambient temperature during your commute will fall below this level more often than not. If temperatures are milder, you can opt for summer tyres, or all-weather tyres. All-weather tyres offer the best results if you don’t want to change your tyres while being safe year-round.

Check the Delivery Date

Once you’ve booked your new tyres, make sure you know when they will be arriving. Most companies will provide an estimated delivery date, which is then finalised once your order has gone in. Make a note of when the tyres will arrive, and make sure that you are okay to drive until that time, especially if your current tyres are very close to the end of their useful life.

Who’s Going to Fit Them?

Buying tyres is simple. However, you need to make sure you know who will fit the tyres for you once they arrive. Of course, you can avoid all that worry by buying your tyres online from a reputable garage who will take delivery and fit the tyres for you when they arrive!
