FREE LONDON: Free things to do in London for all the family over Easter

Don’t we all like the sound of free London? It’s not sci-fi. London has lots of free activities for every taste.

As the Easter holidays approach, many families are looking for fun things to do in London without breaking the bank. Luckily, there’s lots available for families of all ages and interests. Here are some ideas for free things to do in London over Easter.

Explore the city’s parks

London is home to many beautiful parks, and they are perfect for a family day out. You can pack a picnic, fly a kite, or simply stroll around and enjoy the scenery. Some of the most popular parks in London include Hyde Park, Regent’s Park, Richmond Park, Greenwich Park, and St. James’s Park.

 

Visit museums and galleries

Many of London’s museums and galleries are free to enter, making them a great option for families on a budget. The Natural History Museum, the Science Museum, and the British Museum are just a few examples of the world-class institutions that offer free admission.

Take a walking tour

There are many walking tours available in London, covering a range of topics and areas of the city. Some are free, while others charge a small fee. Free tours include the Changing of the Guard at Buckingham Palace, the Jack the Ripper Tour in East London, and the London Street Art Tour.

Attend a festival or event

London is known for its many festivals and events throughout the year, and many of them are free to attend. Some Easter events to check out include the Oxford vs Cambridge Boat Race, the London Games Festival, and the Camden Fringe Festival.

 

Visit markets and fairs

London has a variety of markets and fairs that are perfect for browsing or shopping. Some of the most popular include Borough Market, Camden Market, and Portobello Road Market. Many of these markets also have street performers and live music.

 

Go on a bike ride

London has an extensive network of cycle routes, and cycling is a great way to explore the city. You can rent a bike from one of the many Santander Cycles docking stations around the city, or bring your own bike and explore some of the quieter routes.

Attend a church service

Easter is a religious holiday, and attending a church service can be a meaningful way to celebrate. Many churches in London offer free Easter services, including St. Paul’s Cathedral, Westminster Abbey, and Southwark Cathedral.

 

Explore street art

London is home to some of the world’s most famous street art, and many of the works are free to view. The Shoreditch and Brick Lane areas are particularly known for their street art, but you can find works throughout the city.

 

Visit historic sites

London has a rich history, and there are many historic sites to explore. Some options include the Tower of London, the Houses of Parliament, and the Churchill War Rooms. While some of these sites charge admission, many offer free entry to children.

A riverboat ride is a great way to see the city from a different perspective. The Uber Boat – Thames Clippers offer a hop-on, hop-off service that stops at various points along the river, and children under five ride for free.

 

Enjoy the views from a rooftop

London has many rooftop bars and restaurants that offer stunning views of the city. While these can be expensive, some venues offer free entry, including the Sky Garden and the Queen of Hoxton.

 

Arts and crafts

If your children love arts and crafts, why not indulge them in some festive Easter decorations? Letting your children be creative can be a wonderful way of keeping them entertained, and there are so many different decorations you can make!

Easter egg decorations: Grab an egg from the fridge and poke a small hole at the top and the bottom of the egg with a thin needle. Over a bowl, blow into the egg from the top so that the yolk and egg whites exit the bottom of the egg into the bowl.

Wash the egg and blow out any additional water into the sink. Then your children are free to paint the eggs in all sorts of colours and shapes! And you can use the rest of the egg to make delicious, scrambled eggs for lunch!
