Christmas light trail review: ILLUMINATURE at WWT London Wetland Centre in Barnes

,The light trail at the WWT London Wetland Centre in Barnes was beyond my expectations. I walked into the Wetlands not knowing what was going to be like.  In past years I had been to other light shows so I was unsure what this one would bring to our local community.

ILLUMINATURE didn’t disappoint. The show really surprised me with the interactiveness of the whole experience in the form of buttons to press that switch on lights and lily pads that light up as you jump on them, all to spread the message of saving the Wetlands. I loved every single bit of the lights and even got to enjoy a nice hot chocolate drink as I explored the trail.

The lights were cleverly crafted to bring the beautiful creatures of the Wetlands to life such as ducks, herons and otters. Exploring the trail engages you with excitement and wonder throughout the walk with lit up archways to marvel. There are different sets of wings that flash up and down to simulate flapping, too. The wings are a great photo opportunity that makes you want to take a photo at every set. I left the Wetlands centre with a sense of wonder, joy and full of Christmas spirit.

The light show is enjoyable for all ages and perfect for kids and their families.

ILLUMINATURE runs Fridays to Sundays from now until 8th January 2023 between 4.30pm and 9.00pm. Wrap up warm and wear wellies while you experience the wonder of wildlife at night.

Hot chocolate in hand, visitors can enjoy glimpses of real animal magic through night vision goggles, spotting several species of birds and beautiful plant life. They can also visit the resident family of otters tucked up in bed, while learning about phases of the moon and how they impact our environment.

Hosted by the Wildfowl & Wetlands Trust (WWT) and Lumagica, this captivating experience is a real seasonal treat for all ages to spend an hour or so reconnecting with nature beneath the moonlight.

Tickets

Tickets cost £18.50 for adults, £14.50 for children (under 4s free), with family tickets at £60.00. They are available from www.wwt.org.uk/illuminature.
