Top family friendly walks through London  

Richmond Park

London Mums have pulled together the top family friendly walks through National Trust places in London suitable for all abilities, with level paths, dog friendly routes, or longer routes to explore.

Richmond Park

Morden Hall Park trail  

Distance: 1.9 miles (3 km) 

Difficulty: Easy 

Get outside with friends and family on a stroll through this historic parkland. Walk through the wetlands on your way and spot little egret and snipe wading through the water. Play pooh sticks on the white bridge to round off your walk then stop by the café for reviving drinks and seasonal treats.

Osterley Park perimeter trail  

Distance: 1.5 miles (2.4 m)  

Difficulty: Easy  

Walk, run or cycle along this trail around the perimeter of Osterley Park, taking in beautiful vistas as you go. It’s got an all-weather level surface, making it accessible for wheelchairs and pushchairs and dogs are welcome too, so the whole family can come along. The route is circular, taking you right back to the start, so you can stop off at the Stables café to refuel on tasty hot lunches, snacks and drinks.

Rainham Hall Community Garden  

For a short stroll, stop by this tucked away treasure and explore the community gardens. This nearly three-acre community garden is free to enter and is open from 11-4.00pm, Thursday to Saturdays. Just the place to escape outdoors for some fresh air during winter. Please note, the garden is closed from Sat 1 Jan (for maintenance) reopening on Thursday 3 February 2022.   

 

Longer adventure walks   

 

Ham House from Richmond   

Distance: 4.5 miles (7.2 km) 

Difficulty: Moderate 

Starting at Richmond Station, this circular walk takes you from the bustle of Richmond, right out to the rural calm of meadows surrounding Ham House. Take in iconic views across the Thames on your way from Richmond Hill, the only view in England to be protected by an act of Parliament.

Egham to Runnymede circular walk   

Distance: 3.7 miles (5.9 km) 

Difficulty: Moderate 

A ramble through meadows and ancient woodlands towards Runnymede, the site of the sealing of Magna Carta. Starting at Egham Station, this walk takes you through varying urban, woodland and meadow landscapes. As you approach Runnymede, spot moving memorials and explore modern artworks Writ in Water and the Jurors.  You’ll also see willow sculpture forming an image of pre- industrialised Runnymede, depicting people working in the fields to gather hay.
