The Little Prince – Family Christmas show review

An Omnibus Theatre Production inspired by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry’s magical childhood classic tale The Little Prince – which has sold more than 150 million copies world-wide and been translated into over 300 languages and dialects is the perfect family Christmas show. London Mums’ child reporters from the kids’ club went to a special preview show to check it out.

The Little Prince is my favourite children’s tale of all times so much so that I have read it in all six languages that I master. I am really excited about the re-imagining of this widely-read story, which is directed by Omnibus Theatre’s Artistic director.  It is quite ambitious in terms of the elements in the set design, not widely seen in a theatre of this size. It’s a brilliant blend of enchanting storytelling, delightful puppetry, live music with a dash of festive magic. The play follows on from Omnibus Theatre’s previous success in staging award-winning family theatre productions (OFFIE-WINNER for Best Family Production 0 – 7 years Zeraffa Giraffa).

The story

On a quest to return to the asteroid that he calls home, the Little Prince encounters a stranded pilot and her crashed plane. Their adventure is one that will take you and your family across the galaxy, from the Sahara Desert to the Moon.

The Little Prince lives alone on his planet, frying eggs over volcanoes and weeding baobabs until one day, Rose appears and sparks a journey for The Little Prince to meet the streetwise fox, the king without any subjects and the magical snake who sees all.

One quote from the fox in the story sums up the beauty of this storytelling:

The most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or touched,
They are felt with the heart.

The kids’ verdict

Here is London Mums’ child reporters Pooja (12) e Jyoti (13)’s verdict:

‘We really liked the show because it was really funny and well acted. We knew the Little Prince story but we didn’t expect it to be so funny! Of all the characters the Little Prince met in his journey, we particularly liked the character of the fox because it helps the Little Prince to become a good friend to the rose, explaining in a very funny way what real friendship is: a true friend accepts you as you are!
It is a heartwarming story suitable for every age and it showed us how to be good friends! We highly recommend it and remember, as the fox says: the heart sees things that are invisible to the eye!’.
