HarperCollins Children’s Books will relaunch five original classic Mary Poppins novels complete with new luxurious covers set for publication on the 26th July 2018. These timeless novels, that famously inspired the classic Disney movie, can now be adored by a new generation of readers.
All five stories, Mary Poppins, Mary Poppins Comes Back, Mary Poppins Opens the Door, Mary Poppins In the Park and Mary Poppins in Cherry Tree Lane / Mary Poppins and the House Next Door follow the story of Mary Poppins, a magical children’s nanny, who is blown by the East wind to Number 17 Cherry Tree Lane, into the Banks’ household where a multitude of adventures unfold. P.L. Travers was born in 1899 in Maryborough in Queensland, Australia and was one of three sisters. She worked as a secretary, a dancer and an actress, butwriting was P.L.Travers’s real love, and for many years she was a journalist. Itwas while recuperating from a serious illness that she wrote Mary Poppins “to while away the days, but also to put down something that had been in mymind for a long time”, she said. She received an OBE in 1977, and died in 1996.
