Children and Marvel fans will be pleased to know that Thor and the Gods from Asgar are back this Autumn for a new adventure. Mums will love to see Chris Hemsworth’s big muscles flying on the big screen as well as Britain beloved star Tom Hiddleston reprising his role as Thor’s nasty brother Loki. The new film is called Thor: Ragnarok and is directed by Taika Waititi. The cast includes Cate Blanchett, Idris Elba, Jeff Goldblum, Tessa Thompson and Karl Urban, with Mark Ruffalo and Anthony Hopkins. THOR: RAGNAROK IS IN UK CINEMAS OCTOBER 2017.
The story
In Marvel Studios’ Thor: Ragnarok, Thor is imprisoned on the other side of the universe without his mighty hammer and finds himself in a race against time to get back to Asgard to stop Ragnarok — the destruction of his homeworld and the end of Asgardian civilization — at the hands of an all-powerful new threat, the ruthless Hela. But first he must survive a deadly gladiatorial contest that pits him against his former ally and fellow Avenger — the Incredible Hulk!
I cannot wait to see the fight between Thor and Hulk, his friend from work. As usual, humour is always present in the Marvel Universe and I expect great fun scenes from this movie. Take a look at the teaser trailer.

Thor Facts
My son learnt about Thor at school when he studied the Vikings. He is the famous hammer - wielding God from the Norse mythology. Many Vikings wore hammer-shaped amulet and pendants. His hammer is called Mjolnir. This is not the only weapon Thor relies upon in the Marvel Comics. His enchanted Belt of Strength is also essential as it enhances his strength to almost double. In Norse mythology, these two items are accompanied by magical, iron gloves that allow him to wield Mjolnir. His name comes from the word thunder and gives the name to Thursday. He is an Aesir warrior God - often depicted with fierce eyes and red hair - and is the son of the ruler of the Gods, Odin. He is associated with lightning, storms and strength, as well as healing and law and order. He loves fighting with his heavy hammer. In the Marvel Universe he is a superhero and fights with the Avengers.
Created by Stan Lee, Larry Lieber and Jack Kirby, Thor made his first appearance in the Marvel comics in August 1962
in the issue of Journey into Mystery and was based on the Viking God of thunder and protector of the Earth.
In a few years his popularity rose to the point that Marvel had to create a comic-book series called The Mighty Thor. According to Norse mythology (also referred to in the Marvel Comics), Thor and the other Gods of Asgard gained their immortality from eating the magical Golden Apples of Idunn, which grow in Asgard and can only be picked by the goddess Idunn. He has to periodically return to Asgard in order to renew his immortality.
