Dream On, Amber is a funny and heart-warming story about Amber who misses her dad. He left when she was little and is not coming back. Therefore, to deal with this harsh fact and other challenging scenarios (like starting secondary school) Amber dreams up lots of ways to help deal with these problems, which don’t all work out as she had planned!
The book touches on subjects such single parent families, starting secondary school and being mixed race (Amber is half-Italian and half-Japanese), which many young readers will be able to relate to. Emma Shevah also grew up without her father being around so was able to write about the emotions Amber is feeling from first-hand experience. A really touching story that will tug at the heart strings but also make you laugh.
The author Emma Shevah is half-Irish and half-Thai. Her great-great-grandfather was King Rama 1 of Thailand, so by all rights she should be living a life of ease and luxury in the tropics. Instead, she spends her days dashing around rainy North London, writing, teaching English and raising four children.
