2015 was the year I interviewed chick-lit literature Queen Sophie Kinsella. Driven by the enthusiasm for this genre I found another London author to keep me company for a few weeks with her hilarious novels: Lucy Holliday. The first time I saw A night in with Audrey Hepburn was at Bologna airport in Italy last October and that thought that for a novel to be famous abroad it must be good and worth giving it a go. So I decided to buy it.
Indeed A night in with Audrey Hepburn has all ingredients to entertain us mums (particularly London Mums – keep reading to find out why). This is why I loved this book:
1) It’s funny!
2) The main character is a youngish born and bred London woman (from Wimbledon to be precise)
3) The novel is ironic – in the Sophie Kinsella’s style – to the point where I thought the ‘heroine’ or better said ‘anti-heroine’ was very much a cousin of Becky Bloomwood.
4) It is London-based – which I love as a lot of familiar places and iconic locations are mentioned.
5) It is easy to read and the descriptions are not boring or long.
6) Audrey Hepburn‘s ghost is one of the characters in the story – I won’t say any more otherwise I will spoil it for you.
7) Lucy Holliday is a London Mum and also based in South West London. She might want to also be interviewed in our publication after reading this blog.
I find a weird connection with a lot of the English female authors across the centuries. Whether you agree or not, you have to admit that Jane Austen is the precursor of Sophie Kinsella and Lucy Holliday.
